Offshore Sport Fishing in Hilton Head Island

This is serious offshore fishing aboard our Freeman 29 catamaran, departing Hilton Head Island, destination: waaaaay out. Target species vary greatly over the course of the year, so check with us to see what’s happening during your visit.

Let's Talk Location

This is authentic Offshore fishing.

Sure, there are folks that will take you on a so-called 4 hour "deep sea" or "offshore" trip, but that means, "just off the shore" to the same types of places we might explore in our shorter 4 hour inshore/nearshore trips. We value accurate descriptions and bet you do, too. So just to be clear, we consider the first few miles out as technically Inshore Fishing and Near Coastal Fishing.

Our Freeman 29, A Live One™, is one of the regions fastest and most comfortable offshore charter fishing boats. With max speeds of 50+mph in ideal conditions, we can get to fishing spots in much less time than most other charter vessels. Speed varies according to the water conditions, but even in chop this boat rides better than even some larger traditional monohulls. This is something you need to experience to truly understand.

Our closest “offshore” destinations are places like we still consider “nearshore” (<5 miles off the beach) like the Whitewater Reef, Fish America Reef, the General Gordon Reef and the Savannah Ship Channel Entrance. These are accessible in 4+ hour trips.

A bit further out, in the ~10-20 mile range off the beach we have the Beaufort 45 Reef, Hilton Head Reef (aka “Tire Reef”), Eagles’ Nest, and the famous Betsy Ross Reef & Tybee Trough. These are great destinations for a 5-8 hour trip and often hold a great variety of sea life that we don’t see closer in.

We see an abundance of live bottom beyond that, good trolling and some special structural destinations like Navy Towers in the 40-60+ mile range offshore. These areas are best fished on a full day 7-8 hour trip.

Our true “Gulf Stream” fishing is typically in the 60-80 mile range where we have the best productivity for Mahi, Wahoo, and Tuna. Thanks to our Freeman 29, we can fish these places on 8-10 hour trips in good conditions with very reasonable fuel burn. Spots that take 3-4 hours to reach in a typical charter boat are more like 2 hours away in the Freeman. It’s like a Time Machine!

Techniques can vary from bottom fishing with live bait or high speed jigging, casting plugs, or trolling. While no experience is necessary, we suggest you have a good idea about what it’s like being in a boat, at sea, all day. We love it, and hope you will too.
